     The year 2001 was a great year for Boxers in Agility. Fourteen Boxers showed that they could run with the best by earning points toward their AKC Master Agility Championship (MACH). Three of these were breed Champions. One Boxer went so far as to earn the MACH title. The first ever earned by a Boxer.

 

     In difficulty, the AKC MACH title is equivalent to the AKC OTCH (Obedience Trial Champion). Only one Boxer has ever earned the OTCH.

 

     In order to earn the MACH title, a dog must earn 750 points. Points are earned by finishing an Excellent B, Standard or Jumpers With Weaves (JWW) course under course time with NO faults. In addition to earning the 750 points, a dog must also double qualify (DQ) TWENTY times while earning these points. This means that the dog has to qualify both in Excellent B, Standard and JWW on the same day, twenty times!

 

     Before a dog can even start earning the MACH points and earning DQ’s, he must first earn the Standard and JWW Titles at the Novice (NA/NAJ), Open (OA/OAJ) and Excellent A (AX/AXJ) level. This is a total of 18 qualifying runs!!

 

     The Master Agility Excellent (MX) and the Master Agility Jumpers With Weaves (MXJ) titles are earned by successfully completing TEN Excellent B courses respectively with no mistakes. By the time a dog has earned both his MX and MXJ titles, he has had to qualify 38 times! 26 of those times at the Excellent level!!

 

     The next time you see the letters MACH in front of a Boxer’s name or MX/MXJ or AX/AXJ behind his name, you will know how hard that Boxer and his favorite human actually worked to earn the right to use those letter.
